administration of widely distributed environments and the mobile
workforce. And you can use Prism Suite to manage your Windows systems
from any location with an internet connection.
Mobile
Workforce Support: A new proxy server enables computers to securely
communicate with your Prism Server enabling complete management of mobile
systems
Distributed
Locations: Enable any system with the Prism Client to serve as a local
repository for deploying software or configuration packages therefore reducing
bandwidth and improve operational efficiencies within a widely distributed
network environment.
 Powerful Software Deployment Console:
Drag and drop installation tasks onto
computers or groups of computers no matter where they are located.

Smart Update™: Automatically target computers for critical
software & patch
deployment based on their hardware,
software, or network configuration - without conducting an inventory scan.

32 and 64 Bit Easy Package Creation:
Simply click "next" and Prism Deploy builds a Package
for you. You don't have to write or edit complicated scripts.
 Complete Control and
Automation of Complex Tasks:
Get instant access to the
hardware, software and network configurations of target computers. Build
Installation Rules directly into a Package, or use Prism's powerful
configuration-based scripting language
 Instantaneous
Software Deployment:

repair a computer's software with Prism Deploy, it happens - now!
 Centralised
Distribution Reports:
Receive immediate feedback on the status
of your deployments including detailed alerts.
Active Directory
Integration:
Though Prism Deploy doesn't require Active
Directory, if you are using AD, Prism Deploy imports organisational units
so you don't need to build a separate infrastructure. Plus, Prism Deploy
provides more flexibility and better reporting than Microsoft® Group
Policies.
SQL Database Architecture:
Prism Deploy 6.0 is built on a SQL database for improved
scalability and integration with industry-standard technologies. Integrate
Prism Deploy with an existing SQL database, or let Prism Deploy help you
install the Microsoft SQL Desktop Engine (MSDE).

to a package so clients only install authorised software. Ensure that only
the administrators who are authorised can view and edit packages, making
your entire deployment system safe.

distributing security settings along with applications. Prism Deploy
captures, packages and deploys applications that require changes to
special registry and NTFS permissions for controlled, reliable, automated
rollouts.

pre-defined roles for administrators and customise permissions of roles to
completely secure deployment or updating processes.
Wake on LAN:
Maximise your organization’s productivity. With supporting
hardware, Prism Deploy can wake or activate offline computers to deploy
packages efficiently when bandwidth usage is low or during non-working
hours.

use of network bandwidth and local disk space. Unlike other solutions,
Prism Deploy incrementally delivers and installs deployment packages, so
it can resume distributions where they were.

advanced Internet deployment capabilities of Prism Deploy.
Smart, Fast
Self-Healing:
Prism Deploy makes any software self-healing, it
only fixes what is broken, making the process fast and

One Package for
Diverse Computers:
The Smart Variables and Paths feature let
you customise a single package for a diverse environment.
Conflict Checker
Utility:
Prevent "DLL Hell". With Conflict Checker you can
evaluate Prism files for conflicts in the files and the registry
PRE-deployment.
Unparalleled Reliability: Customer feedback shows Prism Deploy is reliable
99.9% of the time when installing software and updating PCs.
Immediate Return on
Investment:
With a short learning curve and high reliability,
Prism Deploy pays for itself in just one or two rollouts.

hard-coded value in a deployment Package into a variable that resolves
itself as you tell it: prompt a user, pull a unique setting from each
user's environment or from another variable. |
|
Installation Rules |
Safeguard installations by creating your
own Installation Rules to control how a deployment Package evaluates the
hardware, software, and network configuration of an end-user environment
before installing. The Prism wizards walk you through the process of

Encryption |
Prism deployment Packages are automatically
encrypted and compressed 40-70%, making them efficient for moving across

What's New: |
New Infrastructure
Prism Deploy has a new SQL database as its repository for
storing information about the Channel. The SQL database
makes Prism Deploy version 6.0 extremely scalable, flexible
and powerful, and it enables companies to leverage their
existing technology investments. Prism Deploy 6.0 includes a
Channel Migration Tool to migrate pre-6.0 Channels to the
new SQL database. |
|
|
Console Enhancements
The Prism Deploy 6.0 Console now gathers and displays
extensive information from managed clients, including
whether they are on- or offline, their last contact with the
Channel Server, their IP address, the name of the logged-in
user and more. |
|
|
Security Roles
Prism Deploy version 6.0 allows you to create security roles
within the Console. For instance, a Help Desk administrator
may be able to create and assign Tasks, but may not be
allowed to add or remove Clients from the Channel. A manager
may be assigned the role of report reader only. Roles can be
customized and created to suit an IT organization's
structure. |
|
|
Reports
Prism Deploy has an all-new report interface which includes
extensive filtering, report customization and export
options. Version 6.0 includes several new reports, including
Administrator Action Log, Computer Status Report and others. |
|
|
Wake on LAN
Prism Deploy version 6.0 can now wake computers that are
powered down before deploying a Task, enabling after-hours
deployments.
Note: Target computers must have supporting hardware. Wake
on LAN is not supported on Windows 95. |
|
|
Checkpoint Restart
Prism Deploy version 6.0 will now pick up where a deployment
left off, should the connection between the target and the
Task be dropped. Checkpoint restart ensures deployment
reliability, especially over less stable links, and enhances
support for remote users. |
|
|
Package Authentication
Prism Deploy Packages can now be signed with a digital
certificate. Clients can be restricted to only install
Packages from a trusted source, for exceptionally secure
deployments. Packages can not be viewed or edited by
administrators who do not have access to the digital
certificate.
Note: The minimum
requirements for Client computers to support Package
Authentication are: Windows 98 and Internet Explorer version
5; NT computers must be running Service Pack 4 or above. |
|
|
Component Installation
Prism Deploy 6.0 components can be installed on separate
systems, making Prism easy to install, configure and use.
The component installation enables greater flexibility to
separate packaging, deployment and reporting functions among
appropriate IT staffers. |
|
|
Permissions Deployment
Prism Deploy version 6.0 can now capture file, folder and
registry permissions that may be required by certain
applications. This gives administrators the option of adding
the necessary permissions within a Prism Package and
distributing them along with the application.
Note: Permissions deployment
is only supported on computers running Windows 2000 and
above. |
|
|
Quick Start Templates
The new Quick Start Channel, included as an option when
installing Prism Deploy 6.0, provides powerful templates for
illustrating Smart Update™ technology. Smart Update helps
users take advantage of automatic targeting and maintenance
of computers based on their configuration. |
|
Feature Modifications: |
Rollback files now adjust for
daylight savings time changes when determining if a file or
folder should be rolled back.
Prism Packages and
self-installing files (SIFs) being deployed through batch
files and other processes outside of the deployment Console
now wait until they have finished applying before moving on
to the next command in the batch file or script. |

|
Feature Modifications: |
The evaluation of Configuration
Group rules that are based on IP or NIC addresses has
improved methods for managing memory and internal
configuration storage, and also eliminates a rare fatal
error.
The assignment of a recurring task to an unlicensed or
disabled computer, or the assignment of a disabled recurring
task to a computer will no longer cause performance problems
on the target computer or the Prism Deploy Server.
Configuration Groups based on user-specific settings (e.g.
HKEY current user values) will now correctly populate.
Tasks assigned through an Organizational or Configuration
group to multiple user computers will now correctly
uninstall for all users of the computer.
Self-Installing files (SIFs) will only perform a
reinstallation of the PrismXL service on the target computer
when it is necessary.
Command tasks are now better able to open documents on older
operating systems, to open web addresses, and to open
documents whose file type association contains an unexpected
parameter. |

German and French. Customers may now choose English, French,
or German versions of the program files, on-line help, and
Quick Start Guide.
Prism Deploy fully supports the new privileges introduced in
Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 and Windows Server 2003,
enabling software deployments to any user on locked-down
computers running these operating systems.
Administrators can now make the Prism Deploy Client
completely invisible to users by hiding the Client’s
task-tray icon. |

|
Feature Modifications: |
Prism Deploy’s rule expert now
provides an “<Env Var>” type that lets administrators more
easily create a rule for custom information on users’
computers.
The Prism rule expert now supports special non-English
characters, such as umlauts.
Prism Deploy’s Configuration Groups have improved
performance and scalability, and a defect involving very
long rules has been addressed.
Prism Deploy now better reflects changes in Organizational
Group membership as computers change their OU membership in
Active Directory.
Repeat at Logon and Repeat at Startup tasks now execute
properly on computers that change Configuration Group
membership at user logon or system start-up. |
|
What’s New: |
Smart Update™
Use the Group wizard to build Configuration Groups based on
hardware, software or network configuration and assign
deployment Tasks. Computers that match the configuration
automatically put themselves in the right group(s) and
receive the administrator-assigned software. |
|
|
Citrix Server Management
Package and deploy server-based applications to Windows
servers, including those running Citrix MetaFrame and
Windows Terminal Services. Prism Deploy version 5.0 has a
unique server license. |
|
|
Advanced Scheduling Options
New Task scheduling interface is more intuitive and has more
options, including scheduling recurring tasks (based on time
or system event). Administrators can also easily update or
repair a task that may have failed previously. |
|
|
Enhanced Task Automation
New Installation Rules and configuration-based scripting
options provide instant access to hardware, software and
network configurations of target computers. Installation
rules are built directly into a package. |
|
|
Microsoft SMS Integration
Administrators can now build PDFs and MIFs for seamless
integration with Microsoft SMS. The PDF option makes it
simple to deploy a Prism Package from SMS; the MIF option
ensures reporting to the SMS status and inventory reports. |
|
Fixes: |
The way computers report their
names in the Channel has been completely redesigned. This
addresses the issue where computers may alternately appear
in the channel with their host name or their Active
Directory name. |
|
|
The startup logic for all
components of Prism Deploy has been improved. Among other
things, the improvements fix the issue reported by some
customers that multiple Prism client icons appeared in the
system tray. |
|
|
Prism no longer uses the TEMP
folder to store baseline Pictures. |
|
|
Several issues in the Editor
when dragging and dropping text files between Packages and
when performing "save as" operation on a Package have been
fixed. |
|
Revision Availability: |
Available online for immediate
download. Requires a version 5.0 serial number. |
|
Who Should Install: |
Any customers who are running
earlier versions of Prism Deploy and/or looking to take
advantage of the new features available with version 5. |
| Module(s) Affected: |
All (Editor, Deployment Console,
Server, Client, Services, Conflict Checker) |
|
What’s New: |
NT systems are now able to
process unattended Tasks when they have been logged out but
not rebooted. |
|
|
The Prism Client now caches
reports that it sends to the Prism Server until a
confirmation is received, resulting in accurate and complete
reports on the Prism Server. |
|
|
Occasionally the "MSN Passport"
login panel would appear on Windows 2000 and ME systems when
taking a picture or finding changes. This has now been
fixed. |
|
|
You can now add files larger
than 1 GB to Packages. |

What’s New: |
Report Archiving Fix
In version 4.0 of Prism Deploy there were performance
problems with the report archiving. This was the major cause
of the "Pending" issue where Tasks that had actually
deployed successfully on a target system still reported that
they were "Pending" in the report window. The handling of
report archiving has been improved to eliminate the
erroneous reports of "pending" tasks. |
|
|
Windows XP Support
Additional items have been added to the Ignore Folders,
Ignore Files and Ignore Registry sections of Prism Deploy's
rules.ini file to prevent capturing unnecessary information
in packages built on the Windows XP platform. |
|
|
Command Fix
In version 4.0 certain command tasks were not handled
properly. When a command task pointed to a UNC path and the
command required the use of a switch when the command
executed, Prism Deploy would incorrectly parse the command.
For example, version 4.0 would interpret "\\computer\folder\program.exe
/q" as "\\computer\folder\program.exe \q". This has been
fixed. |
|
|
Prism XL Service Fix
In version 4.0, the Prism XL service would incorrectly stop
when a logoff occurred. Occasionally the timing was such
that the client would make sure that the service was running
during the time between the logoff and the service receiving
notification of the logoff. The client would then get a
message that "The Prism XL Service is not installed/started"
when it would try and gain access to a restricted resource.
Prism now correctly leaves the Prism XL service running
after a logoff. |

Snappy for
Prism

Prism
Deploy Software is the complete PC Configuration Management Solution
with a range of bolt in optional modules designed to automate and reduce
the implementation overhead of both the Hardware and Software
configurations of PC's.
Adding one of the following bolt in modules
to Prism Deploy or Prism Suite will not only expedite the building of
new or existing PC's but will allow systems implementers more time to
complete other tasks whilst leaving Prism to do the work.

OS Deploy for Prism
Deploy and Prism Suite
Build Windows Operating systems on New or
existing systems.
Understanding the Unattended Operating
System Deployment
When installing Windows from scratch,
traditionally you would boot from the Windows CD-ROM and the setup
routine will spring into life.
During this setup process, Windows will ask
questions such as:
-
What is your OEM or product key?
-
What domain do you want to join?
-
What TCP/IP setting do you want?
-
etc etc etc
The “Microsoft experience” of installing
Windows with this constant communication can quickly become very
tiresome. Installing Windows manually in an enterprise environment is
expensive and time consuming.
OS Deploy for Prism software leverages
Microsoft's “unattended.txt” answer file. This file allows you to answer
all of the installation and pre installation questions and enables you
to execute a Windows installation from a the OS Deploy for Prism
Management Console.
From the management console you can pre -
answer all of the questions required by the operating sytem set specific
drivers for video, network raid cards etc and at the single click deploy
the Operating Sytems to the whole of your organisation.
OSDeploy Product Features
Installation and Migration
OS Deploy for Prism supports the
installation and migration of Windows XP, Windows 2000,Windows 2000
Server, Windows 2003 Server, VMWare, Microsoft Virtual Machines and
Tablet PC's.
Industry Standards
OS Deploy for Prism uses Microsoft's
unattended.txt method to setup and install Windows in an unattended
mode. OS Deploy for Prism also uses Intel’s PXE technology which allows
workstations to boot from a server on a network prior to loading the
operating system.
Graphical
Editor
OS Deploy for Prism has an intuitive
graphical editor that easily creates and customizes your unattended
installation files.
Computer Configuration Management
Configuration settings can be set and
inherited at various management levels, so you do not need to replicate
common settings when dealing with your custom environment.
Prism Suite and Deploy Integration
OS Deploy for Prism integrates with
New Boundary Technology’s award-winning Prism Deploy. Using Prism's
unique “Smart Update” technology, computers can dynamically receive all
their applications without administrative intervention.
Integration of Imaging Solutions
Via PXE boot, customized commands can be
executed on workstations, allowing for backups or installations via
imaging solutions such as Ghost or Drive Snap Shot
Flexibility
Custom commands can be run at boot time or
inside the unattended setup.
Load Balancing
For load balancing, different sites can be
defined and computers can pull the required configurations from
different installation points, but managed from the single console.
